As a reminder, each quarterly update will feature up a few big ideas on my top two areas of interest.
Also, happy Pi Day.
Here we go!
Area 1: Operations
Executive coaching has seen a boom in recent years. L&D, coaching, and training are effective tools to help level up the skills of your team, regardless of company size. Yet so many leaders hire awful coaches at high prices. So I created a guide for leaders on how to find, evaluate, and work with coaches.
Area 2: Neurodiversity at Work
Building a neuroinclusive workplace is cheaper and easier than you may think. Many of the roundtable participants were asking about the math of inclusion, so in January I wrote a longer piece on the financial case for workplace adjustments. This comes after a year of researching and writing about neuroinclusion, and learning the often confusion language of DEI. I have had the chance to learn from many incredible humans, and together we are now bringing the lessons learned into companies who want to improve their cultures and workflows for all people regardless of their brain types. If you know anyone in a leadership, DEI, or HR training function who is curious about neurodiversity, you can send them here.
In Other News …
1. I’m not a movie guy, but saw some incredible movies that made me think. The Young Woman & The Sea was a feel good film about many things, including trying to be the first at something. And the Mars Volta movie, Omar and Cedric: If This Ever Gets Weird, was an inside look on teamwork in creative collaborations.
2. The Winfred Rembert memoir, Chasing Me To My Grave, was a captivating story with a visceral description of life in the Jim Crow south, and a great look into the life of an artist whose talent was discovered late in life. On a much lighter and nerdier note, UW researcher Chelsea Wood’s enthusiasm for Parasites is infectious, and fun for all ages.
3. In 2020, I fell in love with Notion and stopped using Evernote, Apple Notes, and Trello. I cut my usage Google Docs, deleted hundreds of old saved emails, and streamlined my life. Since then, I’ve helped many people and teams figure out how to make Notion work for them. I love sharing the stoke. If you are thinking of moving over to Notion or struggling to figure something out, sign up for my free office hours on Tuesdays.
